ROLE PURPOSE
You will be responsible for the delivery of the portfolio of Academy programmes
You will work closely with the Head of Researcher Development to foster and maintain relationships with members of the faculty.
The post holder will conduct workshops and other development activities, including one-to-one and small group coaching, as part of the AREF Researcher Development Programmes team. AREF provides training programmes to early career health researchers across Africa in order to support individual’s transferable skills, research income generation and career development. Delivery will be conducted both virtually and in person in a variety of locations, primarily in Africa.
As part of AREF Researcher Development Programmes team, the post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering professional development for African post-doctoral researchers/early career researchers (ECRs). They will be expected to create and deliver training, working with a wide range of specialist AREF faculty, guests and alumni to ensure breadth and depth of professional development delivery. This job will involve working closely with academics, funders and other professionals from a range of different countries and cultures.

What you will do:
Training Management
You will be responsible for delivering Programmes as directed by the Head of Researcher Development. Your duties will include:
- developing appropriate tools for training delivery and utilising these to ensure that the different components of training programs are delivered and evaluated within time and budget.
- delivering a portfolio of Training programmes for Early Career Researchers.
- recruit, develop, train, manage and evaluate a faculty of proficient and committed associate trainers (Faculty).
- plan, resource, coordinate and be responsible for the delivery of professional development programmes, as directed by the Head of Researcher Development.
- be responsible for programme quality, performance and impact monitoring.
- work with the Academy programme delivery team.
- develop partnerships relevant to Academy programmes and represent the charity in programme.
- support the Head of Researcher Development in the creation of well targeted information about AREF programme outcomes and researchers’ achievements for fundraising purposes.
- contribute to creating and maintaining a well-connect and vibrant Alumni
Production of performance report within the Department
You will support Head of Researcher Development implementing Training strategy and policies. Your duties will include:
- monitoring of activities and production of programme reports for funders, internal and external stakeholders
In addition, you will also:
- undertake various projects as required.
- carry out any other reasonable duties.
- identify opportunities to continually improve the charities
Who you will work with:
You will report to the Head of Researcher Development and work closely with other senior managers.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience of:
- delivering virtual, face to face, and blended learning and development programmes.
- delivering experiential learning programmes that integrate different types of learning and developmental interventions.
- health research from a researcher and/or an institutional perspective.
- working with mature learners.
- train-the-trainer experience.
You will be able to:
- communicate clearly and concisely in writing and verbally with colleagues, trustees and other stakeholders including the ability to write reports, briefings and minutes.
- manage a geographically dispersed college of skilled and professional associates.
- build effective working relationships.
- plan and manage multiple projects and processes, delivering consistently to specified high standards and necessary deadlines.
- manage diverse stakeholders to align and achieve agreed objectives.
- work collaboratively and creatively being able to negotiate and compromise in pursuit of shared goals.
You will be:
Educated to Postgraduate level, PhD or clinical postgraduate degree with research experience
You may also have experience of:
- working in a charity.
- biomedical or health-oriented research in low income settings
- coaching qualification or experience
- good written proficiency in French and/or Portuguese.
- experience of project management or project management qualification.

The salary will be paid in Grade 2-1 Points of MRCG at LSHTM’s payscale.
The appointment will be up to 31st July 2028 initially and subject to a probationary period of 6 months.
