Project title: Improving Breast Cancer Care in Tanzania

I am a Surgeon, Academician, and Clinical Researcher at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Tanzania. My research focuses on implementing context-appropriate interventions to improve cancer care in resource-limited settings. Inspired by my experiences with patients affected by breast cancer, I am motivated to enhance our healthcare systems and outcomes through research initiatives

Summary of Project Destination

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths among women in sub-Saharan Africa. My research question focuses on how high-quality data collection through a hospital-based registry can inform interventions to improve patient care. By employing a robust design for data analysis, I aim to identify trends affecting treatment outcomes. The impact of this project could guide effective strategies to enhance cancer care, ultimately improving survival rates in our region.

Summary of Fellowship Plan

I will be placed at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK, collaborating with leading experts in breast cancer care and research. This experience will enhance my research skills and enable me to implement quality data collection methods. My home institution, will support me by facilitating continued collaboration, integrating new strategies into our existing cancer programs, and ensuring sustainable development of improved cancer care practices in Tanzania upon my return.

Quote

“This placement will help me improve my research skills and position me to pioneer context-appropriate interventions that enhance cancer care in low-resource settings.”
